Larry T Hill
Pushed on stage at a ‘slam’ in Central Australia, overland reverse migrant Larry T Hill had an unlikely introduction to performance poetry. Without his usual musical equipment to back him, he simply recited the lyrics to a tune about casual racism from experiences right around Australia. Despite feeling naked, a live transformation from being a vocal looper into a slam poet occurred in that moment on stage. He savoured the taste, the spaciousness given for just the words themselves yet - he still struggles to bring new material to poetry gatherings in Colombo, where he now resides and performs his music regularly. Regardless, he will be performing some poetry with us and also running a ‘Looping Playshop’ for the MAS Galle Children's Programme and Galle Children’s Festival. In his Looping Playshops he makes the power of live vocal looping more accessible through using special techniques via smartphones and tablet apps. Helping these young digital natives make some music with their voice. |
